Read what others have to say about the goalkeeper camp. “the best investment in time and money”.
Coach Hamann:
Last summer after I was done with my freshman year with water polo my coach recommended your camp. I did want to get better as a goalie but give up a summer weekend to be in a pool for two long days, and to get my parents to spend the bucks and
drive me two hours to get to the camp, not really sure
if it was worth it.
This past Monday night (9/17/07) a 33 year standing
You see High School water polo in
( (center of the state) hosted Ann Arbor Pioneer and both JV and Varsity competed. Okemos won both the JV and the Varsity games and with the same score 7 to 6.
The last time Okemos Varsity beat Pioneer was 1974. This was truly a team effort - aggressive offense, solid defense, and outstanding goal tending. Both the Varsity goalie Nick Henry and I attended your camp in Grand Haven this past summer and credit much of our success this year to you and the camp. Nick had 14 saves in the Varsity game and I had 16 saves in the JV game. So far this year Nick and I are averaging a 73% to 75% save to shot ratio. The skills and practice routines we got at your camp are a huge part of our daily practice routine now. Nick is a senior and I am preparing for two years as the varsity goalie, you can bet that my coach, parents, and I will want me to be at your camp next summer. My mom and Dad are beside themselves with joy and pride they see this as “the best investment in time and money”. Being a student athlete has also really helped with my school work and I finished my freshman year with a 3.89 GPA. Dedication to a sport, protecting the cage,
and hard work also work in anything you do, even
school work.
By the way earlier this season the JV team took second place a tournament loosing the championship game to the defending State Varsity Champion Rockford JV team.
The
Thanks coach!
I have my suit, protractor, and paper ready for home
work and look forward to seeing you this summer.

Sophomore Goalie
Hi Steve, This is Gina Mieras. I came to your clinic in Eastern PA and when you came to Grand Haven, Michigan. I just wanted to let you know that I am currently a sophomore at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa. We have a small team of 8 girls, and I'm the only goalie. We just finished competing in the Western Division II College Championships where we placed 3rd; behind U of Michigan and Indiana U. I really wanted to thank you so very much for sharing all your expertise in the goal and that I use your techniques every day!! I just checked the Long Beach State national statistics and saw that I was ranked 5th for top 30 saves; although I do realize that I will drop eventually as my season is finished and more teams will continue to finish their seasons soon. Last year as a freshman I finished 11th and dropped to 17th for a final placing. Once again I want to thank you for ALL your help, I greatly appreciate it and I have learned so much that has helped me out immensely. I hope all is well with you. Gina Mieras
Steve, I don't know if you remember me from the Winter Park clinic last summer. Tall kid with longer hair at the time. Wanted to thank you for your time and effort you put into traveling around the country helping the minority of us polo players, goalies, in our efforts to protect the cage. Wanted to let you know how much that weekend clinic and videos I bought from you helped me going through my training. I will be attending St. Francis College on a full tuition scholarship for water polo this coming year and wanted to say thank you. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you in the future. TJ Clark
I must tell you that I was most impressed with your enthusiasm, your obvious knowledge of the goalkeeper position, and above all your excellent teaching skills. I can't help but believe that several budding champion goalkeepers have gotten their start with you. Hank Crooks, Thousand Oaks, California, 2004
Awesome!! Your explanations were great! Kelsey Thorne, Soquel HS, CA 2004
Having "Harpo" in the water was what made this clinic heads and shoulders above any other clinic. We, as coaches, saw drastic improvement in each kid over just two days. Simply amazing and powerful instruction!! A + + !! Jason Sweedyk, East Grand Rapids HS, MI 2004
I can't believe how much time Steve spent in the water with the kids! Steward Nelson, Huron HS, IL 2004
Awesome clinic! The best one I have ever attended!! Very applicable to coaching HS goalkeepers. Jeff Hardy, West Ottawa Public Schools, MI 2004
David attended your clinic last summer in Vallejo and thinks it was awesome. Best $$$ we spent on polo last year. Nancy D, 2003
"My goalkeeper told me that he learned more in the first session at this clinic then a week in Southern California." Vanessa Thorrington, Florida 2003
An Introduction to the Goalkeeper Clinic
This is a clinic that comes to you at your pool. To host a clinic, Steve would like at least 18 goalkeepers and 3 coaches for the clinic (this year, clinics have averaged 20+ goalkeepers per clinic). The clinic is over 2 days, with 2-three hour sessions per day in the water. Goalkeepers will be in the water with Olympian Steve Hamann for 12 hours during which, Steve will demonstrate many different drills/skills the made him one of the best in the world. The clinic will cover conditioning, understanding the size of the cage (side-to-side), understanding angles, blocking shots (one arm, two hands, corner, inside, outside, skip, fakes, inside, lobs, penalty, 6-5), mentality of being a goalkeeper, coaching yourself and teammates, different types of shooters, pre game warm-up, off season workouts. Coaches are put to work in the clinic, both in the water and on the deck. See quotes from goalkeepers, quotes from coaches, and quotes from parents.
Goalkeepers will be able to see each drill/skill performed in the proper technique by Steve, hear his in-depth explanation of each drill/skill, performed each drill/skill for Steve and receive his feedback on there performance, watch other goalkeepers perform the same drill and hear what Steve tells them, have time to practice the new drill/skill under the supervision of a coach (and Steve), and then see Steve do the skill/drill again with more explanations.
Clinics can be scheduled any two consecutive days during the summer (Monday through Sunday) or on weekends during the school for any month of the year. Contact Steve for more information on dates available for a clinic at your pool or click on "Clinics Scheduled this Year" to see upcoming clinics.
Parents, many past clinics have been organized by and because of parent involvement. See quotes from parents. I would love to bring my clinic to your pool.

"Steve Hamann is not only a great goalie, he is an outstanding teacher. The drills he teaches are directly related to game situations and can be practiced by the goalie during warm ups and during any shooting drill or scrimmage. Our goalies are focused and motivated by what they learned at the clinic. I highly recommend this clinic to any serious water polo program."Larry Naeve CIF Coach of the Year La Canada High School
I want you to know that I thought the clinic was great. You have a great ability to teach.Ahmad Ng Willow Glen High School This clinic really breaks down the tasks that successful goalies need to perform in game type situations, since the goalie is the defensive weapon that most clinics overlook, it is a great service to all skill level goalies to attend this clinic in order to improve or develop skills he or she already has.Copyright © 1997-2008[Steve Hamann Water Polo Clinic for Goalkeepers and Coaches]
