I walked away from this goalkeeper clinic with a much greater understanding of how to coach goalkeepers.

Awesome clinic!  The best one I have ever attended!!  Very applicable to coaching HS goalkeepers.

Jeff Hardy, West Ottawa Public Schools, MI  2004

The ideas presented during the clinic simplified and solved many problems that we were trying to solve.

Doug Wilson, East Kentwood HS, MI  2004

It helped me break down the position and forced me to concentrate on this specialized position.

Dick Mortensen, Wheeling/Prospect Coop, IL  2004

Goalies are mostly "self-taught".  By the time they learn the game, they graduate.  This will help develop goalkeepers with more predictable consistency.

Stewart Nelson, Huron HS, IL  2004

Very insightful, great ideas for goalies and work-outs.

Mark Markwell, Barrington HS, IL  2004

This has simplified how goalies can be taught and trained while I might be coaching other aspects.  Helps show goalies how to be more responsible
Frank Tribendis, Wyoming Valley West, Pennsylvania

The clinic gave me a number of new ways to help explain drills and ideas to goalies.

Sean Hulsey, La Canada High School, California

Steve Hamann did a terrific job of explaining drills not only to the players themselves but he included coaches into the discussions.

Ahmad Ng, Willow Glen High School, California

Absolutely.  I've been a field player (shooting machine) all my career. I can now identify with goalkeeper positioning and teach technique.  I've never had any goalkeeper training, so this was an real eye opener.

Dan Zabel, Newberg High School, Oregon

I no longer feel like my goalies will be neglected in practice.

                                    Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California

The angles and focus on staying in the cage--not out, is very helpful.
Ed Robinson, Palos Verdes WP Club, Former National Team

Steve gave individual attention to detail and emphasis to fundamentals for better understanding.

Jose J Vazquez, Palomar College, California

I received a strong understanding of the significance of the drills presented.

Not only did you explain the scenarios in which each drill can be used but you did a good job explaining how to progress from simple to complex aspects of the drill.

Jeff Hardy, West Ottawa Public Schools, MI  2004

I appreciated the fact that drills were repeated in both sessions, morning and night.  Also, I appreciated the in-depth explanations of examples, drills, and objectives.

Jane Visser, Jenison HS, MI  2004

Yes!  Very through instruction.

Tom Mroz, Buffalo Grove HS, IL  2004

The drills were broken down into simple tasks that all coaches and novice goalies could understand.

Ahmad Ng, Willow Glen High School, California

The significance I understand is the correct repetition of doing very specific technique. Then, teaching self and teammates how to help and encourage each other.
Frank Tribendis, Wyoming Valley West, Pennsylvania

The significance of each drill was presented in a no-nonsense fashion with many demonstrations and illustrations.

                                    Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California

All of the drills were well presented and explained.  Not just the how to but also the reason behind the drills or techniques.

Sean Hulsey, La Canada High School, California

The drills replicate game situation--the focus on body positioning, esp. the legs is outstanding.
Ed Robinson, Palos Verdes, Water Polo Club

                                    Former National Team Member

There was ample time to absorb coaching techniques that will enable me to instruct my players.

Most coaches don’t even know enough drills to keep a goalie “effectively” busy.

                                       Bruce Bradley, Los Alamitos, California

1968 and 1972 USA Olympic Water Polo Team

Going over the material multiple times is excellent for teaching skill to players and coaches alike.

Stavros Lee, Eastern Michigan University, MI  2004

Absolutely-I couldn't stop taking notes.  I loved the discussion and then demonstration.

Jane Visser, Jenison HS, MI  2004

Time management was a huge deal with Steve Hamann.  He was focused and on time with all the drills presented.

Ahmad Ng, Willow Glen High School, California

There was ample instructional and practice time to fully absorb the drills for later implementation.

                                       Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California

But it would always be nicer to have Hamann looking over my shoulder to see if we can identify the same problems of a goalie.

Dan Zabel, Newberg High School, Oregon

Yes.  And what I don't remember, I can check my notes.

Sean Hulsey, La Canada High School, California

I know my coaching will improve because of the instruction and drills received at this clinic.

I have a clearer picture of how to instruct my goalie so he can instruct his defense to his liking.

Ahmad Ng, Willow Glen High School, California

I feel more confident in the ability to develop young grass root athletes in how to take control and become a leader.

Frank Tribendis, Wyoming Valley West, Pennsylvania

Steve, my goalies are focused and inspired.

Ed Robinson, Palos Verdes Water Polo Club

                                            Former National Team Member

It all ready has.  I've seen dramatic improvement in my goalies because of the clinic and my following up with them.

Sean Hulsey, La Canada High School, California

This clinic took the guesswork out of coaching goalies.

                                            Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California

Not only my coaching but my players understanding of my coaching will improve.

                                           M.A., San Jose, California

Definitely.

                                           D.M., Visalia, California

I would recommend this goalkeeper's clinic to other coaches.

I will sing your praise.

Ed Robinson, Palos Verdes Water Polo Club

                                            Former National Team Member, 1981

It is a must for all coaches from beginner to advanced.

Dick Mortensen, Wheeling/Prospect Coop, IL  2004

This is a great clinic to take goalies to the next level and to help coaches realize what goalies need to get in shape and develop their techniques.

Jane Visser, Jenison HS, MI  2004

The goalie is the most neglected and least understood part of the game.  This will be a great help for all coaches.

Dirk Flores, San Clemente HS, CA  2004

Probably the most useful thing to happen to our team over the summer.  With better goalies, our defense is stronger, allowing a bigger focus on our scoring!!

Sean Hulsey, La Canada High School, California

This clinic is a must for coaches that want the most out of their goalies.

                                            Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California

By the second session, I saw marked improvement in out two goalies.

Frank Tribendis, Wyoming Valley West, Pennsylvania

Particularly to those coaches who have not had any goalkeeper background.  A real eye opener.

Dan Zabel, Newberg High School, Oregon

I would like you to come to our pool.

                                            D.M., Visalia, California

Reflections on the clinic.

Even as an ex-goalie there are many things that I forgot in 25 years.  This helped to refresh and expand my knowledge of goalkeeping.  One of the best clinics I've been to.

Gordy Smith, Pioneer HS, CA  2004

The way you deal with the players is extraordinary.

Joe Dummir, Holland HS, MI  2004

Having "Harpo" in the water was what made this clinic heads and shoulders above any other clinic.  We as coaches saw drastic improvement in each kid over just two days.  Simply amazing and powerful instruction!! A++!!

Jason Sweedyk, East Grand Rapids HS, MI  2004

Saw improvement in every goalkeeper over the course of the 2 day clinic.

Dick Mortensen, Wheeling/Prospect Coop, IL  2004

There were so many aspects of goalkeeping that I had missed before.  Now I have specific drills and strategies to teach my players.  Awesome clinic.

Tod Schwager, John Hersey HS, IL  2004

I really enjoyed the clinic.  You have broken goal skills down into logical "components" of the game.  Practicing the "components" will lead to better play during the game.

Steward Nelson, Huron HS, IL  2004

Great Job!  Very excellent instruction, easy to understand and follow.

Tom Mroz, Buffalo Grove HS, IL  2004

Very well taught.  Steve answering questions all the time was invaluable for comprehension.

Stavros Lee, Eastern Michigan University, MI  2004

Being a field player, I lacked the knowledge and experience to teach goalies properly.  Thanks to Steve's clinic, I now have the confidence to train my goalies.

Robert Savitt, St. Ignatius, IL  2004

Extremely personal and intent on conveying information and technique.

Frank Tribendis, Wyoming Valley West, Pennsylvania

Steve Hamann is not only a great goalie-he is an outstanding teacher. The drills he teaches are directly related to game situations and can be practiced by the goalie during warm-ups and during any shooting drill or scrimmage. Our goalies are focused and motivated by what they learned at the clinic. I highly recommend this clinic to any serious water polo program.

Ed Robinson, Palos Verdes Water Polo Club

                                              Former National Team Member

I appreciate the "goalie attitude" Steve brings.  I hope to make our goalies more aggressive.

Dan Zabel, Newberg High School, Oregon

This clinic really breaks down the tasks that successful goalies need to perform in game type situations, since the goalie is the defensive weapon that most clinics overlook, it is a great service to all skill level goalies to attend this clinic in order to improve or develop skills he or she already has.

Ahmad Ng, Willow Glen High School, California

The instruction was easy to understand and made so much sense that I found myself continually saying, "Why didn't I think of that?"

                                              Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California

Steve Hamann goalkeeper clinic is the best clinic for goalkeepers in the country.

Jose J. Vazquez, Palomar College, California

Very nice pace and way of teaching them. Allowed enough time for thought and questions, and practice.

                                             M.A., San Jose, California

I really gained a lot of valuable info. I have been pounding into all my goalies your techniques. Thank you.

                                              D.M., Visalia, California

What drill(s) did you benefit most from?

Those that taught positioning and goal angle. Hand and arm placement on crossing moves.

                                            Bruce Bradley, Los Alamitos, California

1968 and 1972 USA Olympic Water Polo Team

Angles!!

Robert Savitt, St. Ignatius, IL  2004

The drills that benefited me the most as a coach was the lob drill, the pull-down drill, the corner drill, and the most difficult drill to perform and be effective at, the cross pass drill.  Thanks Harpo.

Ahmad Ng, Willow Glen High School, California

Side-to-side, or how to cut off the angels.  The first is a must have skill for goalies and the second lets them take control of "their" cage and its defense.

Sean Hulsey, La Canada High School, California

Side to side. In the goal pull-downs.

Frank Tribendis, Wyoming Valley West, Pennsylvania

The pull-down drills, angle with the rope, and time reaction drill.

Jose J. Vazquez, Palomar College, California

Flotation device idea.  Angle shooting drills, corner lunges.

Dan Zabel, Newberg High School, Oregon

Pull-downs from a short distance. “Robot”.

                                             M.A., San Jose, California

Side-to-side, warm-up sets.

                                             D.M., Visalia, California

Pull-downs, side-to-side.

                                             Jamie Warner, Atascadero, California
